If there is one colleague who literally and figuratively moves for his job, it is Dennis De Bo. He has been a fixture at Vebego Cleaning & Services for years. Today, he works as a “butterfly”, or a flexible cleaner who steps in where needed. ‘No two days are the same. And that's exactly what I love about my job.’
From odd jobs to a permanent fixture on the job
Dennis joined Vebego eighteen years ago through a former colleague. ‘In the beginning, I mainly did odd jobs,’ he says. ‘But when a customer dropped out, they asked me if I wanted to fill in as a butterfly. That grew, and now I've been on the road for years, together with my cousin Mario. I used to drive with my brother-in-law, and my wife was also my colleague for a while. It's almost a family business.’ (laughs)
Every Thursday, Dennis receives his schedule for the following week. "I then look at how I can organise my route most efficiently. Of course, I take into account the urgency of certain assignments. As a butterfly, you know that the schedule can always change. Sometimes I get an extra customer during my shift or have to continue driving after my shift. That's part of the job – I'm there to jump in quickly and help customers.

‘The variety, without a doubt,’ says Dennis with a smile. ‘I work at different locations, perform a wide range of tasks and meet lots of people. My work is never boring. And I get appreciation – from my manager and from customers. Recently, a customer sent a thank-you email to my manager. That feels good.’
